Canada’s Deputy Minister Visits Hifi

Hifi was honoured to demonstrate its High Fidelity Dynamic Sensing (HDS) pipeline leak detection system to John Knubley, Deputy Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED), during a visit focused on advanced Canadian technology and innovation.

Also attending the demonstration were Heather Campbell from Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC) and Janet Dorey from ISED, along with other representatives from the pipeline and innovation ecosystem. The session provided an opportunity to showcase how Hifi’s fiber optic sensing technology enables continuous, real-time monitoring of pipelines.

HDS combines acoustic, temperature, strain, and vibration sensing to detect leaks and other events with high accuracy while minimizing false positives. This approach supports safer pipeline operations and helps operators respond more quickly to potential risks. The visit highlights the growing interest from government and industry in next-generation infrastructure monitoring solutions, and the role Canadian innovation plays in improving safety, reliability, and environmental performance across critical energy assets.

The visit also provided an opportunity to discuss how continued collaboration between industry and government can support the advancement of emerging technologies. Engagements like this help strengthen connections across the innovation ecosystem and support the development of solutions for critical infrastructure.
