Ontario Premier Visits Hifi for Tech Demo
Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne visited Hifi Engineering at the GE Innovation Centre in Calgary for a demonstration of its High Fidelity Dynamic Sensing (HDS) pipeline monitoring technology.
During the visit, Hifi showcased how its fiber optic sensing system provides continuous monitoring across pipeline infrastructure. By capturing acoustic, temperature, strain, and vibration data along the pipeline in real time, the system enables operators to gain a more detailed understanding of changing conditions and identify potential issues earlier.
The demonstration also highlighted how HDS differs from traditional monitoring methods by offering full coverage along the length of the pipeline, rather than relying on discrete measurement points. This approach provides greater situational awareness and supports more informed operational decisions.
The visit provided an opportunity to demonstrate how Canadian-developed technologies are contributing to modernizing critical infrastructure. Advanced sensing platforms like HDS are helping pipeline operators improve reliability while supporting evolving safety and environmental expectations within the energy sector. This type of engagement also helps build awareness of emerging technologies across the industry.
